Please help our puppy mill rescues
May 16 Update: We are very, very saddened
to report that Grace has crossed the bridge. Her medical condition
was very severe and all the veterinary care she recieved was
simply not enough to repair the damage that had been done
by her upbringing. Please light a candle in memory of this
always happy little angel.
April 28 General Update: All of the puppy
mill rescues are heartworm negative! Yay! All of the dogs
have undergone some sort of surgery this week, so it's been
a tough (and expensive) week. Little Grace had an eye removed
and several of the girls are being spayed and having entropion
surgery. Douglas' daddy days are now behind him.
Basic Information:
We have managed to rescue five dogs from a Wisconsin puppy
mill and desperately need your help with them. Not only
do we need to find foster homes for them, but we will also
need money for their medical care, as you will see from the
photos and descriptions. If you can foster, please fill out
our volunteer form and a SPS
volunteer will be in touch with you as soon as possible. If
you would like to donate, please click
here, or visit Mani's
Miracle's Fund, which will undoubtably be tapped to pay
for the care of these pups that we would not otherwise be
able to afford.
Meet the Pei:
Now for the introductions. Please keep in mind that we don't
know too much about these dogs yet, but we will fill in the
blanks as we get to know them. Click on the photos or the
names for larger photos.
 Pippi
- May 3 Update: Pippi is in her new foster
home and doing much better than expected! She's still very
shy and will need a patient home, but she's beginning to come
out of her shell - her tail is up now! She likes kids and
other dogs, so that's certainly a plus! Her skin is healing
up nicely as you can see from her new photos. April
25 Update: Pippi is very shy, having not spent much
time around humans, so will need an understanding family to
help her come out of her shell. She
will take quite a while to totally recover from her skin issues.
She is a very good girl, even though she's not used to the
love and attention she's now receiving at the vet's office.
At 41 lbs, she is underweight. --- Cream Pei, 2 - 3 years
old, horrible
shape -- will
be taken right to the vet this Saturday when SPS gets them
from their temporary home.
Penny
- May 3 Update: Penny is the most shy. Due
to poor socialization, Penny is going to take a while to come
out of her shell and will probably always be timid. Penny
joins her new foster brother, Nemo. April 25 Update:
Penny is a very sweet girl, but afraid of pretty much everything
right now. She hasn't had much exposure to the good things
in life and will need a patient family that will be willing
to take it slow while she learns all about the good life of
being a housedog. At 37 lbs., she's underweight. ---Black
Pei, 2 - 3 years old, bad shape, too -- will be taken right
to the vet this Saturday when SPS gets them from their temporary
home.
 Douglas
- May 3 Update: Douglas met some more new
people yesterday and liked all of them - even the kids. He
also seems to do well with cats and well behaved dogs. He
spent the weekend at a temporary foster home. Read about his
adventures with Baby and Bear here.
(PS: Click on his photos for bigger versions!) April
25 Update: Douglas is a typical male: bluster on
the outside, but teddy bear on the inside! He is pretty healthy
and will be neutered to be taken out of the puppy-fathering
business soon. --- 5-Point Red Pei, 2 - 3 years old, OK shape,
but nails are so long, he's walking on the back of his paws.
Again, if you can foster, please fill out our volunteer
form. If you would like to donate, please click
here, or visit Mani's
Miracle's Fund. We will need all the help we can get to
save these five beautiful dogs!
Grace
- May 16 Update: We are very, very saddened
to report that Gracie has crossed the bridge. Her medical
condition was very severe and all the veterinary care she
recieved was simply not enough to repair the damage that had
been done by her upbringing. Please light a candle in memory
of this always happy little angel. May 3 Update:
Gracie developed pneumonia after her surgery. She's fragile
and underweight. We are all praying she pulls through. I hope
she lives to be 12 years old and never suffers another day
in her life, just to prove to the puppy mill that her life
was worth saving. They took everything away from her ... her
vision, her health ... and this sweet puppy did not deserve
to be treated like that. Her ongoing care is going to be extensive
and expensive, so please, please, please, make a donation
to help Gracie! April 22 Update: Thanks to
all the people who have applied to adopt Grace. This sweet
girl has touched many hearts. We will go through each application
as the time for Grace's adoption nears. However, we need to
let you know that Grace's condition is such that she will
need ongoing veterinary care for an extended period of time
and we've had an overabundance of interested adoption applicants.
As of now, we do not even have an estimated guess of when
she will be able to go to a forever home. We want to thank
everyone for their financial contributions for Grace's care.
We can't tell you how much it is appreciated! We will give
updates as they become available. ------ Puppy - 5 - 6 months
old, in horrible shape, trauma
induced glaucoma with left eye, right eye severe entropion,
bronchitis, staff/yeast skin infection beautiful temperament,
this girl was taken straight to the vet & is still there,
left eye will most likely need to be removed when infections
are under control & she's stable enough to have surgery.
Olivia
- ADOPTED!!!!!
April 24 Update: Hi, I'm Olivia and I'm a very lovable
girl. I wag my tail all of the time, love hugs, and would
like to sit on your lap if you let me. I'm learning about
lots of new things since Shar Pei Savers rescued me and would
love to become part of your family. I like running and exploring
the yard a lot so if you have a fenced yard I will be extra
excited. I'm also not too bad on a leash, so I like walks,
too! I seem to be okay with other dogs with proper introductions
and even met a cat the other day. Keep checking back as SPS
learns more about me. (Click on my photos for bigger versions!)

---- Flowered Pei, 2 - 3 years old, the healthiest of
the bunch.
